Academic Work

"Prototype Design"

Objective, full prototype targeting beginner designers and marketers:

The initial prototype (click images to the right) will reinforce the learner's understanding of the terms and what they look like.

Rules for this are simple as this is an uncomplicated memory-style game. There are 16 tiles – 4 rows of 4. A player makes a match when two of the tiles revealed present the correct term that corresponds to the correct image. There is a tracker on the prototype that records how many turns it takes to complete the game, along with how much time it took for completion.

Memory and repetition games are important for improving visual recognition and understanding, which will help support the learner be able to recognize what is working – or not – in their own design and marketing.

"Project Planning - Onboarding"

Objective:

  • One-page visual summary documenting start to finish planning and a one-page overview to create buy-in for stakeholders.

"Visualizing the Visual"

Objectives:

  • What disciplines, in your view, influence the study of visual literacy the most?

  • Who are the trendsetters -- the artists? The teachers? the philosophers? or someone else?

  • What DO images want?

The words and imagery included in the graphic mind map are representative of the key terms and concepts that I feel encompass the vast and complex ideas and history behind Interdisciplinarity and visual literacy.

The mind map framework is a human with vines and flowers growing from their head, representing growth, life, and change. Each bloom is labeled with terms from the readings that support organically stretching ourselves through art, learning, and growth; all pieces are connected as if in nature, and all pieces are dependent on the survival of the other for themselves.

"A Table"

Objective, based on the 5 Components of Multimedia:

  • The text must provide instruction

  • The text must provide a written narrative

  • The text must enable a hierarchy

  • The text must be discoverable

The goal of this table was to instruct an adult learner about the most important theories, theorists, and terms from the first few chapters of Digital Media for Learning by Florence Martin and Anthony Karl Bertrus (Martin & Betrus, 2019).

While satisfied with the design and content overall, a revision would include condensing information to eliminate some visual clutter. It is also necessary to amend font color and some layout discrepancies, such as gutter unevenness.

"A Whitepaper"

Objective:

  • Create. a whitepaper based on content from the published work by Rim Razzouk and Valerie Shute, What is Design Thinking and Why is it Important (Razzouk & Shute, 2012)

  • Consider Mayer's Multimedia Principles with project creation

  • Meet specified dimensions and content requirements

The goal of this white paper was to create a 2-page instructional document intended to educate the reader about an issue while incorporating three graphics and maintaining mindfulness of content and form.

This project was much more aesthetically pleasing while meeting the parameters of the assignment challenge. The graphics complement the design without overpowering the information, and the gridded layout aids the organization of information.

A Job Aid

Objective:

  • Create a job aid to assist someone with a task or job using text, photographs, and special attention to color use and layout.

  • Use of six original images, each representing one step in the task

  • Use of color and text to promote learning

  • Consider Mayer's Multimedia Principles with project creation

The goal of this job aid was to create a 1-2 page instructional document to aid an individual in completing a task or job that included appealing imagery and easy-to-follow instructions.

This job aid allowed for the creative freedom to integrate my photography and drawing background. The somewhat retro color scheme and pop art-inspired images pair nicely with the Pez theme and nostalgic feel.

A Podcast

Objective:

  • Create a "how-to" podcast based on technology that does not exceed 5 minutes, including intro and outro music

  • Create a tagline or slogan to unify future podcasts in the series

  • Meet designated challenge dimensions

The goal of this podcast was to create a short technology podcast that presented a smooth transition between intro, content, and outro.

Transitions on this project met the criteria effectively and instructions were clear and easy to follow. Future audio recording will include a more soundproof recording space along with a pop-screen.

A Five Minute Explainer Video

Objective:

  • Create a five-minute explainer video on educational technology using Camptasia's recording software.

  • Include opening music, title screen, cursor effects, end title screen, credits, and outro.

The goal of this project intended the viewer to understand a few Canvas basics to begin building coursework. The video needed clean transitions, clear audio, and easy-to-follow instructions.

While pleased with the result of this project, there are a few formatting discrepancies that will need to be tightened up. Some script editing could benefit the waterfall of information, possibly with several short video tutorials to make up a series.

Literature Review - Adult Learning in Real Estate

Objective:

  • Develop a problem statement that is reflective of a current issue that you are experiencing

This literature review draws from several scholarly journals and publications identifying barriers in adult learning and pinpointing purposeful solutions to knowledge gaps. Additionally, it illustrates theories and techniques for the workforce, specifically the self-employed style framework such as real estate.
